How the Tennessee Vols beat Indiana State 42-7

Tennessee defensive back Marquill Osborne celebrates after beating Indiana State on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017.

- The game ends on two UT tackles for loss. Vols win 42-7

- Touchdown: Guarantano completes an 11-yard pass to Jeff George. UT leads 42-7 with 56 seconds to play.

- Deandre Johnson strip sacks Harker but Jaquan Keys recovers for Indiana State. Trash can remains next to the bench, unused.

- Wolf, who was helped off the field in first half with an apparent left leg injury, is on the sideline in crutches.

- Isaac Harker is in at quarterback for Indiana State.

-KeAaris Ardley almost come down with an interception on Guarantano, but his own teammate broke it up going for the same ball.

- Stadium continues to empty out. It might be a quarter of what it was for kickoff. The Indiana State section is going strong, though.

Third quarter

Touchdown: Dormady connects with Callaway on a 37-yard pass and UT is up 35-7 at 2:12 of the third quarter. 4-play, 50-yard, 1:44 drive.

- Rondell Green intercepts Dormady's pass in the end zone. Green just got in front of Johnson as he turned back for the ball. That's two turnovers for the Vols (fumble and interception by Dormady)

Touchdown: Sparks connects with McClendon for a 23-yard touchdown pass. McClendon bobbled the ball right near the goal line. Butch Jones calls timeout (presumably to allow time for another look). No review. Indiana State is on the board 28-7, after a four-play, 33-yard, 1:55 drive.

- Rex Mosley strip sack and recovery. Came around behind Dormady and overpowered blocker, then dove on the ball (blocker still hanging on). Indiana State's best field position of the game, at the UT33.

That's UT's first turnover of the season.

- That's the end of the first half. UT leads 28-0

Halftime stats: Dormady was 10-of-12 for 123 yards and one touchdown. Johnson (whose father Charles was a four-time gold glove catcher in major league baseball) had four catches for 50 yards and a TD. John Kelly rushed nine times for 48 yards. Fils-aime ran three times for 41 yardsa nd two touchdowns. UT totaled 236 yards on 33 plays.

Cade Sparks was 6-of-13 for 34 yards for the Sycamores. Jacquet McClendon made three catches for 17 yards. LeMonte booker ran for 49 yards on seven carries. Indiana State totaled 126 yards on 32 plays.

Touchdown: Dormady connects with Brandon Johnson in the back corner of the end zone. Really nice pass right on his back shoulder. UT leads 28-0 with 53 seconds remaining in the first half after a four-play, 36-yard, 48-second drive.

That's Johnson's first caqreer touchdown. The sophomore caught seven passes in nine games last year and three passes last week.

- Dormady is back in at quarterback to start the drive midway through the second quarter. Guarantano was 1-of-5 for 18 yards.

- Touchdown: Fils-aime has his second of the game, a 30-yard run to cap a 5-play, 60-yard, 1:37 drive. UT leads Indiana State 21-0 at 9:03 of the second.

Fils-aime has 41 yards, two touchdowns on three carries for Vols. That's efficient.

- Indiana State goes for it on 4-3 at the UT39. It's a well-designed play that fakes out the UT defense, but the receiver trips and it's UT's ball.

- Today's attendence is 99,015. Unusual to hear that in the first half, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

- Indiana State gets its fourth first down of the game at 12:00 of the second quarter.

- Jarret Guarantano is in the game at quarterback. Blake Toppmeyer has more on the backup QB.

First quarter

- Two more special teams penalties for the Vols: block in the back and holding on the same punt return.

- Shy Tuttle makes his first appearance on defense. The lineman missed last week's game due to a leg injury.

- Touchdown: Carlin Fils-aime scores on four-yard rush. UT leads 14-0 at 2:49 of the first quarter. Scoring drive is 81 yards, 11 plays, 4:57

- Eli Wolf is grabbing his left knee after the play. He's helped off the field and to the bench to be checked out.

- Chandler's touchdown was the first time UT returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown since Evan Barry's 96-yard return against Arkansas on Oct. 3, 2015.

- A block in the back on a punt return is Tennessee's third penalty of season. Two of the three have come on special teams.

- Vols gave up five yards in Indiana State's opening drive (on a penalty). Sycamores go three and out.

- Touchdown: That was quick. Ty Chandler starts the Vols off by returning the opening kickoff 91 yards to score. Vols lead 7-0, 14 seconds into the game.

Indiana State got one touch on Chandler on that kickoff return. He may or may not have felt it, however.
