Mishka the Talking Siberian Husky

The very vocal South Amboy, N.J., husky became an Internet sensation in 2008 with a YouTube video in which she seems to say “I love you” repeatedly. The video has been view more than 100 million times.

Mishka has starred in many more YouTube videos since then – including “Mishka is Really Really Angry,” “Mishka says I want my mommy” and “Mishka Wants Waffles!!!” – all of which have been viewed multiple millions of times.

In February of 2011, Mishka got a younger “sister,” a Siberian Husky puppy named Laika. The two have gone on to star in videos together and separately over the years.

Mishka, who is 14-1/2 years old, has slowed down a bit over the years, but still displayed ample chatty character with her people and Laika.

But a post on her Facebook page by her “dad,” Matt Gardea, Tuesday revealed that, “Mishka has had some health issues recently. Not too long ago she underwent surgery to have a tumor removed and now she is having trouble walking.” Wednesday the news was even more concerning: “We’ve discovered that Mishka has a large hard mass under her left front armpit, which explains the limping.”

And this afternoon, her family revealed, “I'm sorry, I wish I had good news. Mishka has a cancerous mast cell tumor. We made an appointment with an oncologist tomorrow morning who will do further testing and evaluate her. After this, we will decide what to do next. You might not hear from us for a while as we pull together as a family to help Mishka during this tough time. Your support is overwhelming, it really shows how many lives Mishka has touched over the years. Thank you.”

Gardea has set up a GoFundMe page in case Mishka's fans would like to help her family cover her medical costs.
